The paywall pony has long bolted

Newspaper publishers have well and truly missed the boat when it comes to charging for everyday content.

That horse has well and truly bolted, is long gone over the hill and through the valley, and can now be found galloping merrily along a sun-drenched beach.

As Alan Mutter wrote:

“a growing number of newspapers are coming around to facing the harsh reality of the marketplace.”

There is now too much competition out there now for newspapers to charge for access to web content , only highly sought after news and information can reasonably be hidden behind a paywall without alienating the majority of the audience.

Companies can make money online, but it requires them to take their online business seriously, and adopt a realistic and open-minded approach to their digital product, give the audience what they want and the platform can deliver not a rehashed printed offering.
